Kathiani-Senior-School Solar Pumping Commissioning

While marrying nature with technology may appear unconventional, it is a powerful pathway to sustainability. Located near the equator, Machakos receives abundant direct sunlight throughout the year, and Kathiani Boys Senior School was initially missing out on this naturally available renewable energy.

Unlike the frequent blackouts previously experienced at the school due to unpaid bills from conventional electricity, 900 students now benefit from reliable solar-powered energy. This uninterrupted power supply keeps classrooms well-lit, allowing students to continue their studies into the evening.

This relief is the result of Davis & Shirtliff’s Commercial Division intervention, through which the school’s existing 1.5 kW pump was solarized.

One student remarked, “This project is a valuable learning opportunity for us and has helped us appreciate how nature can sustainably power our daily lives.” In addition, 50 trees were planted to reinforce the natural cycle of life. The school plans to establish a poultry farm, now that adequate water is available.
